Super Rugby Pacific 2024 Round 11 - Hurricanes 41-12 Waratahs - 03/05/2024

Table toppers Hurricanes provided the dream response to their first defeat of the Super Rugby Pacific season by thumping a woeful Waratahs team 41-12.

Coach Clark Laidlaw demanded an emphatic reaction after an under par performance saw the Hurricanes’ eight-game unbeaten start end against the Brumbies in Canberra last weekend. The canes answered in emphatic fashion at Sky Stadium in Wellington on Friday night, blowing the Waratahs away after a red-hot start leading 26-0 at halftime.

A Hurricanes win looked inevitable from the moment classy centre Billy Proctor raced through to score the first try of the game three minutes in. Brett Cameron, Josh Moorby, and Brayden Iose added the points tally in a scintillating first half in Wellington.

Vuate Karawalevu finally got the Waratahs on the board when he scored in the right corner in the 69th minute before Rayasi three minutes later. Rayasi stepped on the outside of the debutant and produced a dive superman would have been proud of over the try-line.

The Waratahs scored one more consolation try late on before TJ Perenara capped off a memorable evening with his record breaking try.

Result:

Hurricanes 41-12 Waratahs
